After a wedding, corporate event, or family function, organizers dump thousands of photos into a shared folder or drive link. Guests have to manually scroll through all of them to find the handful they're actually in - a bad experience that also makes it hard for organizers to deliver a premium, personal product.
What I built
- Designed and built VirAI, an AI face-clustering engine that groups an event's full photo set by the people in each photo, so a guest can find every photo they appear in without scrolling.
- Built the product on Next.js, with Cloudflare R2 for storage and RunPod for GPU inference - keeping infra cost variable and usage-matched instead of running always-on GPUs.
- Designed a tiered subscription model (₹1,499–₹8,999 across 1–12 month plans) to fit organizers ranging from single weddings to recurring corporate event calendars.
Key decisions
- Build vs. buy for face clustering - chose to build a custom clustering engine rather than wrap an off-the-shelf face-recognition API, to control accuracy, cost per photo, and privacy handling directly.
- On-demand GPU inference - used RunPod instead of dedicated infrastructure, so compute cost scales with actual event volume rather than carrying fixed GPU cost between events.
- Duration-based pricing - priced by plan length rather than a flat per-event fee, to fit both one-off events and organizers running events year-round.
